When it comes to this band no statement could ring anymore true. As Absolutepunk.net says, "ALL TIME LOW has the potential to be the next Cartel or The Academy Is….Say hello to your new favorite pop punk band."  Hailing from the suburbs of Baltimore, MD the group made up of singer/guitarist Alex Gaskarth, guitarist Jack Barakat, bassist Zack Merrick, and drummer Rian Dawson simply set out to make music people appreciated and what they found was something truly special. With unforgettable melodies, explosive guitar hooks, and relentlessly driving rhythms the message in their music is loud and clear, "We're here and we're here to stay".  At the ripe old ages of seventeen and still in high school the band has already recorded their debut EP and their first full length The Party Scene was released in August. Their relentless DIY attitude and work ethic has made the record a near permanent fixture in the Smartpunk Top 20 sales list without the aid of a national distributor. "This is our life," Alex says. "There is nothing else we see ourselves doing and we're willing to do anything and everything to get where we want to be." That means daily four hour practices and weekends spent driving across the country playing for anyone who will listen.  "We love recording but being a good live band is what we've really worked so hard on," Jack explains. "We've had the chance to play with a lot of amazing bands and we've learned so many things that we've been able to incorporate into our show." Remember my name, Fame; I'm gonna live forever; I'm gonna learn how to fly, high; I feel it coming together; People will see me and cry.

In the spirit of the hugely popular 1980s MGM/United Artist film, television series and musical Fame, Namarina ballet and jazz school presents Talking Toes, the musical, which opened on Friday and will run until Sunday.

It is refreshing to see a production that is unpretentious -- one that knows exactly what its limitations are, plays its strengths to the maximum and is not afraid to ask for help in areas it has no expertise in.

This is exactly the case with Talking Toes, a production that blends song, dance and drama, of which Namarina can boast expertise in only one area: dance.

But to polish up the show, the school's artistic director, Maya Tamara Sianturi, did not hesitate to employ Teater Koma's Joshua Pandelaki as acting director and recruit young arranger Ferdy Tumakaka for the music.

The result is immediately evident, a toe-tapping, finger-snapping production that's fun to watch and one that will make you wonder why you ever gave up ballet all those years ago.

As with Fame, Talking Toes takes place in a performing arts school, the Namarina Performing Arts High School, where three major courses are taught -- Dance, Drama and Music. It is the story about the lives of the school's students, each striving to become a star.

The first scene shows enrollment day. In tune with the song Pray I Make PA, hopeful teenagers audition for a place in the school and are selected by three of the school's masters -- dance teacher Ms. French (Lisa Samadikun), music teacher Ms. Jackson (Arsidianti Boediono) and drama teacher Ms. Monroe (Thessa Kaunang).

As school commences, leading students from each class emerge -- Frank (Raymond van Heije) and Anabella (Agatha Pritania Tajuw) in the music class, Christopher ""CJ"" Johnson (Anthony Alexander) and Sissy (Shintia Novita/Rialita Wijaya) in the dancing class, and John Jones (Ai Syarif), Bill William (Edo/Lucas Welfried) and Daisy (Triesca Ariesandy/Enrinia Tanod) in the drama class.

Each student encounters problems, with the most prominent represented by CJ's love for dancing and nothing else. This soon gets him into trouble with Ms. Jackson.

The acting, though, is nothing to speak of, neither is the English used in the production, which sounds strained and artificial.

""We wanted our students to go global, the English language is one way and our students needed the training,"" Maya said.

The characters of Talking Toes are shallow, their problems undeveloped and unresolved. Many of the side-plots are left hanging, like Ms. Jackson's ailing husband, a problem which disrupts her teaching, and the conflict between her and CJ.

But Namarina knows exactly what it's good at, and the number of song and dance scenes in the production very well makes up for the lame storyline. The problem, of course, makes the scenes of the other two classes, drama and music, boring.

One of the more humorous scenes in the production is during the Romeo and Juliet practice scene involving drama students John Jones, Bill William and Daisy. At first, talented Bill is partnered with Daisy for the part, and all goes great until he has to kiss Juliet.

""I am more comfortable playing Juliet,"" he says coyly, to the laughter of the audience and the players themselves.

But when Bill is replaced with John, Romeo and Juliet's kissing scene becomes real, much to the dismay of Bill.

The accompanying music is also surprisingly good, considering Ferdy Tumakaka's 17 years.

""The songs are taken from Fame the musical and movie. I tried to rearrange them to a more modern taste and not so 80s in ambience,"" the young arranger said. The result, a fresh mix of rap, jazz, pop, hip-hop, rock, blues and samba.

Talking Toes will be staged at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) on Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

jadi kemaren hari Jum'at tanggal 21 agustus, kelas 6A #41 buka bersama di restoran all you can eat, pronto, PIM 1.. makanannya enak loh.. seru juga bisa ketemu temen-temen lama.. gak terlalu banyak sih, cuma ya lumayan lah, bisa ngeliat anak-anak cowoknya lagi.. hehehe...


dan terutama bisa ngeliat SHABRINAA !!!! wah udah lama banget gak liat dia, sebulan lebih kali ya, kalo misalnya tiza ; waktu ultahku dateng, kalo nana ; tiap ballet ketemu, kalo ninis ; wktu itu udh prnh ketemu di PS.. naah kalo anggi dan jeje belom ketemu... kangen juga ama jeje... hahaha.. rania sih sering liat di labschool, kalo ticha dan quinsha, karena mereka di alpust jadi baru sekali itu ketemu (banyak ya yg di alpust.. kecuali ninis : alpen)


kalo cowoknya, semuanya belom pernah ketemu, kecuali syafiq. and he forgot to bring the pin (AGAIN, no im not mad at you syaf.. haha)..


abis makan kita jalan-jalan bareng (aku, tiza, nana, SHABRINAA !!!!, Jeje, Anggi, ninis). kita (lebih tepatnya aku dan tiza) makan (ato minum sih? taulah) di sour sally deket HERO. terus nyebrang ke fujifilm buat photobox.. gila yang foto berenam, dempet2an abis... hahaha.. terus kita dibagi 2 group, masing2 foto ber-3.. ninis, jeje, dan aku. terus tiza, nana, shabrina (as usual)... aah padahal aku pengen foto bareng mereka ber-3 deh.. blom pernah, ber4 doang gitu... kapan-kapan ya..

oke mungkin sekolah lain ada jambore, kalo labsky punya; kalam. nginep di sekolah 3 hari dua malem pas awal2 puasa... hemm kedengerennya asik.. tapi aslinya capek abis.. mana puasa (gw sih nggak, lagi dapet), bangun pagi, dengerin materi mulu, ngantuk abis, yah gitudeh.. tapi ada kakak2 osis-mpk yang baru : NAWA. ada juga mansis-manmpk-nya : HASTHA... seru..

overall kalam ini seru, walopun capek... pokoknya seru...

kangen parah sama XLI.. oke, kelas 7D emang seru.. tapi 6A dan XLI juga.. kangen banget ! kapan kita reunian guys ? oke kalo xli pada baca, gw mau ngasih tau di labsky kayak apa, ato yang tadinya mau masuk labsky tapi gak diterima ato gimana..

mungkin guru-guru aksel alpust banyak ulangan, tapi guru-guru labsky paling jago ngasih pr bejibun... apalagi bahas indonesia.. ya ampun prnya, gilee..ini kelas reguler loh (semua kelas di labsky biling), apalagi yang aksel.. ogah banget dah.. gila aja, masa' sehari, klo misalnya mata pelajarannya ada 4, bisa dapet pr 5. mana pas 2 minggu awal belajar intensif udah dikasih tugas kelompok segala.. geografi ; suruh bikin pementasan tentang sugesti blabla.. terus biologi, suruh jelasin function2 microscope.. ampun deh..
